November Reading Wrap Up & December Plans

I’m a bit late with this post. Let’s blame it on catching up on things after NaNoWriMo and the typical December blur of added to-do-list items ands social engagements. That makes much more sense than blaming it on a complete failure of proper planning and also watching all the holiday movies, right? Yeah, I thought so too.

Now that we’re in agreement about that, on to the books!

I was able to finish eight books in November, including both of the ones I mentioned in last month’s book post.

I finished up my reread of Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series and moved right on to a reread of her Alpha and Omega series, also set in the Mercyverse. If I decide to reread the two series a third time, I think I’ll do it in chronological order of the storyline rather than read all the Mercy books first. You can read the series independently of one another, but each series has some Easter Eggs for the other, so I think that would be fun to read “in real time”. The Mercyverse has become one of my favorite story universes and Mercy and Adam are amazing…. but , as much as I love Mercy and Adam, I think I love Charles and Anna a little more. I highly recommend both series. #RelationshipGoals

I’m about halfway through Darynda Jones’s Charley Davidson series and I adore these books. Charley is a hoot, but my favorites are the love interest, Reyes, and Charley’s BFF, Cookie.

The Patrica Cornwell book was a one-off. I had not read one of hers in at least a decade. My husband is a huge fan of the Kay Scarpetta series and we needed a book to listen to on our drives to and from Virginia last month. It was good. In fact, I don’t even remember why I stopped reading them all those years ago. I think I’ll reread the series next year, or at least start rereading it.

I still have not gotten back to Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff yet. I don’t know what my problem is. I loved the first hundred pages. At this point, I might wait until January and start my reading year off right.

Speaking of January… anyone else planning on doing the GoodReads ATY challenge? I have not participated in a few years but I’m all in for 2023. I have a huge stack of Book of the Month books waiting to be read and I thought that would be a fun way to work through them. At this point, there are so many BOTM’s that I just stand there staring at them, frozen by all the options and then go check out a library book instead. I’ll also be doing a smaller challenge with my book club…. and possibly the PopSugar challenge. I’m on track to read (or listen to) over 100 books this year and while I’ve enjoyed at least 95% of them, I think it will be fun to have a reading plan based on prompts next year.

As for this month… I’m going to read whatever the heck I feel like. It’s December after all. I also plan to continue watching all the holiday movies, so I might not get more than a few books read. Although, I’m already almost done with two, so I’m guessing I’ll get in at least two more. Who knows?
